Holy Week Rituals in Sorrento Coast.

The Holy Week in Sorrento Peninsula is rich in suggestive appointments reminding the Passion and the Death of Christ.

Between the Good Thursday and the Good Friday there are about 15 processions taking place in all the towns of the Sorrento Coast.
All the processions have hooded people and torches: the cortèges, singing the songs of the Christ Passion and the Miserere, wind along the main coast roads.

The two most famous processions are the White procession and the Black procession of Sorrento.

The White Procession, a characteristic cortège of White Hooded People, is organized by the Saint Monica Arciconfraternita; it crosses the Sorrento historical centre roads in daylight of Good Friday and it reminds the search of the Virgo looking for her Son sentenced to death.

The Black Procession, with an involving and particular atmosphere, is held on Good Friday evening and it is organized by the Arciconfraternita Death and Prayer; it reminds the run of the Dead Christ followed by the distressed Mother.
