Artistic Fan Exhibition at the Correale Museum

During your Sorrento stay it is surely worth being visited the collection of artistic fans exposed since July 2nd 2013 at the second floor of the Museum Correale of Terranova, small but delicious museum especially for the atmosphere that you can breath in the rooms of this splendid abode, decorated as an ancient noble residence, with precious furniture, refined European and oriental porcelains and rare Neapolitan and foreigners paintings.

This collection, made of 45 magnificent fans of Italian and European manufacture produced from the XVIII till XX century, outlines a wide and full panorama of the styles and of the techniques of this fascinating object, initially born as simple utility tool and then turned into refined object of luxury and of seduction, used by the dames of court of Europe as fragile love messenger in the eternal ring-around-the-rosey of the courtings, accomplice of seductions and of loving intrigues.

It was donated to the museum in 2001 by Mrs Grazia Mariella and it shows how time has changed and developed the shapes, construction techniques and ornamentation, use and functions of the fan, which has always honourably escaped serialisation, so that the techniques used to make it have always been strictly associated with traditional expertise, which sought to make every one an artistically qualified "unique".
