The Ancient Voices
On August 30th and on August 31st 2013 Sorrento will liven up with the Mediterranean rhythms and sounds, thanks to the first edition of the popular music and culture festival "The ancient voices", that will be held in Veniero Square. A beautiful event that aims to let know to the public, citizens and tourists, typical tools and musical patrimony which comes from the oral tradition. There will be 8 groups and over seventy artists, among musicians and dancers, that will alternate on the stage.
The performances will be preceded on August 30th at 5.00 p.m. in the Sorrento Town Council Hall from a lecture held by the anthropologist Fabio Birotti and by the etnomusicologist Valerio Ricciardelli.
On August 30th 2013 at 6.30 p.m. there will be a stage in
Veniero Square held by the folk group Montemarano and afterwards at 8.00 p.m. a
procession of artists "armed" of "tammorre" (typical local percussion instruments) and other percussions will depart from Veniero Square and it will officially open the festival marching along the city historical center.
At 9.00 p.m. the concert, with the appearance of the groups "A paranza r'o Lione", "A paranza r'o Tramontano", "A paranza di
Materdomini" and "A paranza di Montemarano".
The day after, on August 31st 2013, at 5.00 p.m. there will be a stage of "ballarella" and little hops, typical dances of the low Lazio, held by the ballet dancer Federica Raso.
At 6.30 p.m. the public will can listen, in the suggestive set of the Ancient Sorrento Boundaries (Antiche Mura), a performance of "tammurriate" and songs.
At 9.00 p.m. in Veniero Square the second concert, with the groups "A paranza r'e Malandrini", "A paranza r'o Sciumm Sarno", "The Vagabonds" and "A paranza di Pomigliano".
